Tottenham Finally Signs Ivan Toney on a Fee Worth £50m, He’s Tagged as Harry Kane’s Replacement
Alan Hutton has stated that Tottenham will try to work out a number of add-ons in order to land Brentford striker Ivan Toney in a deal that may cost as much as £50-55 million.
The England striker, whose contract with the Bees expires in one year, has already verbally agreed
to personal terms with Spurs, according to a report from Football Transfers on June 18.
The article also stated that further work needs to be done on value, with Brentford requesting £65 million and Spurs’ £40 million offer being rejected. It is believed that a fee in the middle will close
the transaction.
Speaking to Tottenham News, former Spurs defender Hutton believes that amount is reasonable
for a player who can enhance Ange Postecoglou’s starting lineup.
“I think that’s a good number. I know how Tottenham plays. They go in low, Brentford goes high,
and every move in football ends somewhere in the middle,” he remarked.
“If they can reach the £50-55 million threshold, that would be great. He is still 28 years old, and
while he did have a sluggish finish to the season after serving his suspension (I believe he only
scored three or four goals in 17 games), we know that he is capable of more because of his past experiences, and he will take that into consideration.
Ivan Toney Tagged as Harry Kane’s Replacement
Since Harry Kane was traded to Bayern Munich in the summer of last year, it’s safe to say that Tottenham still lacks a typical centre forward.
Throughout the campaign, Richarlison and Captain Son Heung-min took turns going up top, but
neither is in the mould of Kane.
Toney is undoubtedly a “proper” striker; the only issue is that there will be fierce competition for his services.
