Southampton ‘interested’ in move for ‘terrific’ £18m gem ahead of Premier League return
Southampton, who were promoted through the Championship play-offs, is getting ready to make their
Premier League comeback after a one-year hiatus.
Although manager Russell Martin will know exactly which positions he wants to bolster this summer,
it can be challenging to negotiate the constantly shifting transfer market.
Following his successful loan, the team has already welcomed Taylor Harwood-Bellis on a permanent basis.
Adam Lallana has also indicated that he will return to the Saints when his contract with
Brighton expires at the end of June.
Although Ryan Fraser and Saman Ghoddos appear certain to sign for nothing to
provide much-needed experience, Southampton’s work will not end there.
The St. Mary’s team is reportedly considering a transfer for a young player who could provide some
firepower before the upcoming campaign.
Even with their promotion, Southampton is probably going to lose center-forward
Che Adams this summer when his contract expires.
Having fallen short of expectations since joining Southampton as a 19-year-old in 2022,
Sekou Mara may also be sold, leaving Southampton with just Ross Stewart and
Adam Armstrong as their senior attackers.
Given that Armstrong’s finest work came from playing wide last season,
Southampton is probably going to want two strikers this summer.
Cameron Archer, who played at Sheffield United this past season before being acquired by
Aston Villa following the Blades’ relegation as per the terms of the £18 million deal.
That is according to talkSPORT‘s Chief Football Correspondent Alex Crook, who has revealed that
Southampton are ‘among the clubs interested’ in a move for the 22-year-old to ‘add more firepower’ to their attack.
