Ex-Man United star reveals his ignored transfer to the Rangers
Luke Chadwick, a former midfielder for MK Dons and Manchester United, claims. Only once in his career did a Scottish team show interest in him, but the agreement fell through when he gave a “bad” performance.
The 43-year-old former Stoke and West Ham United midfielder did show interest in joining Rangers.
The Premier League team made the midfield player available for loan. He had been mentioned as a possible addition by the Rangers.
But Chadwick’s dreams of persuading Rangers to make a firm offer for a loan arrangement were soon dashed.
Ex-Man United star reveals his ignored transfer to the Rangers
When Rangers scouts saw Chadwick playing in a reserve match, he declared that he had “an absolute Regi Blinker”.
Given that Chadwick never relocated to Scotland while playing, it meant Rangers did not make an official offer for the player.
“It happened only once during my time at Manchester United,” Chadwick responded when asked if he had ever had any offers to go to Scotland.
“I was given permission to take out a loan; it wasn’t really an offer.
“And the manager mentioned that Rangers were keen on me and that they would be attending to see me compete for the reserve team against Manchester City.
And I looked like a total Regi Blinker. It was disappointing that Rangers chose not to sign me on loan since I played a terrible game.
“I would have cherished the chance to represent a team like that and play in a stadium like that.
Sadly, though, it never worked out. During my career, I received no serious offers from any Scottish clubs.”
