Megan Borthwick signs new deal
Borthwick left his previous club, Durham, to join Sunderland for the 2022–2023 season.
She has been instrumental in raising the bar for goalkeeping at the Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground.
In her four Sunderland appearances in all competitions, Borthwick has kept two clean sheets.
The player has given Claudia Moan, the starting goalie, fierce competition.
Even though Borthwick is probably going to stay the team’s backup keeper for the upcoming campaign,
She still contributes significantly to head coach Melanie Reay’s group. As a result, the club decided to keep her on for an additional year.
Borthwick expressed his excitement about rejoining the Wearside club, saying,
“I feel really privileged to be able to have another year here. I’m absolutely buzzing.
“It would be fantastic to expand on our goalkeeping unit’s close-knit structure, which is exactly what we aim for.
In 2023–2024, Sunderland had an incredibly successful campaign.
Before barely missing out on promotion to the Barclays Women’s Super League, the club was involved in a race for promotion.
For the upcoming season, head coach Reay is eager to keep the majority of her team.
