Oscar Cortes gets Rangers patience plea as John Souttar reveals year long Ridvan Yilmaz struggle
John Souttar has asked Rangers supporters to exercise patience with Oscar Cortes, citing Ridvan Yilmaz as an excellent illustration of how difficult it can be to settle.
The 20-year-old Colombian winger, who is on loan from Lens through the rest of the season, has showed glimpses of his potential in
Light Blue. If Cortes performs well, the Ibrox club has the option to make the move permanent in the summer.
If so, he may receive a four-and-a-half year contract.
joined Govan a little more than 18 months ago after leaving Besiktas for £5 million. However, because Clement alternates between him
and Borna Barisic, he’s only now truly beginning to see consistent playing time. Furthermore, Souttar disclosed that it required a year
for Yilmaz to get sufficient confidence to be at ease in the Rangers setting,
and he has requested that they allow Cortes some time to acclimate.
“Cortes has performed admirably; we must allow him to play football and adjust to life in a foreign nation. It is challenging to navigate
a foreign language and culture; Ridvan likely needed a year or more to become completely self-assured. Oscar appears to have
enormous ability, but we must be patient with him.”
