Breaking Update: Fans should read the Prayers Pouring In for Kristaps Porzingis on Tuesday Morning.
Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis made his return to the NBA court on Nov. 25
after recovering from offseason foot surgery. In seven games played, the Latvian has averaged 19.0 points,
7.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks, helping lead the Celtics to a 5-2 record in those contests. However,
early Tuesday morning, Porzingis reacted to some heartbreaking news as fellow Latvian and
former Orlando Magic G League player Janis Timma was pronounced dead at age 32.
Timma’s body was reportedly found at the entrance of a residential high-rise in Moscow,
Russia. According to RenTV, Timma’s death was from suicide. He spent the 2022 season with the
Lakeland Magic and the majority of his basketball career with numerous teams overseas.
Porzingis shared his emotional response to the news with a post on X, which was later deleted.
“human connection is the cornerstone of our mental health,” Porzingis wrote in Latvian on X.
“please take care of each other. JT light sand.” The No. 4 pick in the 2015 NBA draft
also previously shared a message, hoping the sad news wasn’t true. “oh no, please tell me that’s not true.”
NBA fans left their thoughts and prayers for Porzingis and Timma’s family on social media.
“I believe this is about Janis Timma, not KPs ankle. Nonetheless prayers up,” one fan said.
“Prayers to you and anyone else who played with or knew Janis,” wrote another.
“damn that’s tragic if it’s true, prayers to his family,” added a third. “Sending love
to you and everyone who is hurting by this tragedy,” commented a fourth. “So sorry
KP…. My condolences,” added a fifth. “Sending prayers KP so much love to you from all of Celtics Nation,” posted a sixth.
The Magic also made a statement on X about Timma’s death.
We are deeply grieved to learn about Janis Timma’s terrible demise,
who was a part of the Orlando Summer League squad in 2021 and spent time with
Lakeland (now Osceola) of the NBA G-League in 2021-2022,” Orlando Magic PR stated on X.
“Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and those close to him.
The Memphis Grizzlies selected Timma as the final pick in the 2013 NBA draft.
He appeared in five games for the Magic’s summer league club in 2021, averaging 7.0 points and 3.4 rebounds.
