In relation to UEFA’s financial watchlist for European clubs, Rangers’ chief financial officer James

Taylor has provided an explanation of the team’s circumstances.

The Glasgow team was one of 19 clubs that the governing body was keeping an eye on in 2022 to make sure they were adhering to the

financial standards in place. In a lengthy interview with the podcast Four Lads Had a Dream, Taylor claimed that the reason for this

was an accounting adjustment that was “well within the rules”. In that campaign, the Gers were able to meet their “break even”

requirement; however, UEFA disclosed that this was due to Covid measures or past successes.

Now that UEFA’s regulations have changed, Taylor has said, the club is in a more comfortable situation.

He has also outlined the three pillars that must be met to guarantee the club’s continued status.

You are correct, as a football team, that a few years ago, we were placed on a financial blacklist by UEFA and

the CFCB (Club Financial Control Body) due to a specific accounting adjustment, Taylor said to Four Lads.

“It was entirely legal, but it was something that was recovering money from a Covid position that puts you on a blacklist by default.
