Fans want to see Bernardo play more, especially after Arne Engels’ recent drop-off in form. They got their wish on Saturday, with the ex-Benfica man in from the start against Ross County. He grasped his opportunity, netting in the 35th minute to put the Bhoys 3-0 up.
On Sunday, the usually outspoken Sutton weighed in on the Bernardo debate without taking a particular stance: “There’s an argument amongst the Celtic support whether Bernardo should be starting more games than he is,” said the pundit (Sky Sports).
“It’s a time of year where the squad is stretched, and Celtic are in a really good position that they have really good competition for places, especially in the middle of the park.
“Bernardo, when he’s come on and had his little cameos, he has looked particularly sharp. He took his goal well there [vs Ross County].”
