Mohamed Salah: Victory Over Man City Marks My Final Anfield Game for Liverpool

Mohamed Salah has hinted that Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City may be his final game against Pep Guardiola’s side at Anfield, as uncertainty surrounds his future at the club.

Salah assisted Cody Gakpo for Liverpool’s opening goal and later converted a penalty after Stefan Ortega fouled Luis Díaz. The win extends Liverpool’s lead at the top of the Premier League table to nine points and widens the gap to Manchester City to 11 points.

After the match, Salah acknowledged that his contract, which expires at the end of the season, might mean this was his last Anfield encounter with City. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said, “Honestly, it’s in my head. Until now, this is the last City game I will play for Liverpool, so I just wanted to enjoy it. The atmosphere was incredible, so I’ll cherish every moment. Hopefully, we win the league and then see what happens.”

This marks the second time in eight days that Salah has commented on his future. Following Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Southampton, he told reporters, “We’re almost in December, and I haven’t received any offers to stay. So, I’m probably more out than in. I’ve been at this club for years, and there’s no place like it. But it’s not in my hands. It’s disappointing, of course.”

A source informed ESPN that talks between Salah’s representatives and Liverpool remain positive but complicated, reflecting the difficulty of renewing the contract of the club’s highest earner, signed in June 2022. Unless an agreement is reached, Salah will be eligible to negotiate a free transfer with non-English clubs starting January 1.
