Despite repeated links to Rangers this summer, speculation about Lawrence Shankland’s future remains,

with one report claiming that the forward’s failure to sign a contract’ speaks volumes’ about where he sees his future.

The 28-year-old forward has been in sensational form this season and was offered a bumper new contract by Hearts during the January transfer window, with the Tynecastle club desperate to secure their captain’s future after a goal-laden season in the capital – though he has yet to sign the improved deal.

“I am confident that conversations will continue in the future. At the present, I have 18 months left on this arrangement.

We can move on from that; there’s no need to get things done as quickly as possible,” added the striker.

Both Old Firm clubs were expected to test Steven Naismith’s side, but no bid was made, with Hearts claiming they were not approached at all in January, and Shankland remained in Edinburgh, where he has continued to score goals, including a brace in Sunday’s 4-1 Scottish Cup fifth round win over Airdrieonians.

The forward has 20 goals in all competitions for the club, but his contract will expire this summer 2025

However, Football Transfer Correspondent Dean Jones has suggested that Shankland’s failure to sign a contract signals that the Scotland international’s future may be away from Hearts, and he believes the forward will leave the club shortly.

“Yeah, Hearts fans are probably not much better off here, because he has yet to sign a new deal, and there is suspicion that another team will try to sign him. Even in the final hours of the window, I was not offered any assurances that he would not leave Hearts. So that probably says a lot about where this guy’s career will go next,” Jones explained.
