How many games Aston Villa star Ezri Konsa will be suspended for after his red card vs Newcastle
Newcastle United couldn’t score against Aston Villa despite Ezri Konsa’s red card.
The Villans were poor in the first half and were lucky to stay in the game. Debutant Marco Bizot made two brilliant saves and impressed Aston Villa fans with his performance.
Unai Emery’s tactics at half-time were spot on as Villa came out the much sharper side. They attacked the Magpies well, but their momentum was killed after Konsa received his marching orders.
How many games will Ezri Konsa be banned for after his red card?
Ezri Konsa is one of Aston Villa’s most important players.
The Englishman has produced several incredible performances for the Villans, and he held his own against Newcastle’s forwards in the first half.
However, in the 66th minute, Konsa brought Anthony Gordon down when he was through on goal, and that deservedly got him a red card.
Emery will be delighted that his men could hold on with 10 men and pick up a point, but Villa fans must be wondering how long they will have to be without their star centre-back.
The answer is just one.
Since Konsa was sent off for a DOGSO (Denying an Obvious Goal-Scoring Opportunity) offence, he will only be suspended for one game.
That means he will miss Aston Villa’s clash against Brentford next weekend, but he will be available for selection when Crystal Palace come to town on the last day of August.
Marc Albrighton reacts to Ezri Konsa’s red card during Aston Villa vs Newcastle
When Gordon is through on goal, he is very difficult to stop, but Konsa shouldn’t have brought him down.
The Newcastle attacker still had a fair way to go before he could’ve shot, and with Bizot having a fine game, a goal was not a guarantee.
But Konsa decided to pull Gordon back, and he can have no complaints about the red card.
Marc Albrighton, who played over 100 games for Villa back in the day, said on BBC Sport: “For me, it is the right decision. I don’t think Konsa needs to do it.
“I know Gordon is going through, but himself and Mings are both sprinting back to goal, and Gordon still has 30 yards to go. He has to back himself or Mings to get back.”
