Federico Chiesa has had a tough start to life at Liverpool, no doubt about that,
and with the January transfer window fast approaching, the Italian has an important decision to make
Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa was delighted to join the Reds in the summer,
but it’s been a tough campaign so far for the Italian.
Since joining, Chiesa has played just 78 minutes in all competitions this season,
his last appearance being in September against West Ham in the Carabao Cup.
The 26-year-old has been fighting injury problems since his time at Juventus and, as a result,
missed out on a full pre-season in the summer.
With Arne Slot hoping the forward will be able to return in a matter of weeks,
however, he will still need time to adapt to the physicality of the English game.
As a result of his frustrating start, Chiesa has been linked with a move back to Serie A,
with teams such as AC Milan and Fiorentina said to be interested in loaning the player in January.
But despite the interest from his home country, the obvious choice for Chiesa is to fight for his place at
Liverpool rather than taking the easy way out and returning to Italy.
It is far too early in his Anfield career to be thinking of moving on, even if it would only be temporary.
Realistically, if the Italian can stay fit, he has a good chance of getting game time under Slot.
While Liverpool is still fighting on all four fronts,
they need every player available if the Reds want to win silverware this season.
While he might not start ahead of Mohamed Salah, who is in incredible form this season,
competitions like the FA Cup allow Slot the option to rest the Egyptian to prevent any fatigue or injuries,
and Chiesa being available will be invaluable.
Until Chiesa returns to the side, it would be difficult for Liverpool fans to pass judgement about whether
signing the Italian was worth it or not. Everyone knew the signing was a risk,
but giving up already can’t be an option.
Since Chiesa joined Liverpool, he has not stopped smiling; he seems quite happy at the club despite his lack of game time. Surely this means he has settled into life on Merseyside and has no plans to leave, especially after just six months.
