The Scottish Cup team that lost to Philippe Clement’s team at Ibrox in the fifth round included the former player for Ayr United. Although Scott Brown and his team were the underdogs going into the match, the Championship team performed admirably in the 2-0 loss. The Honest Men’s attention will now shift to league play for the balance of the campaign.

After just a few weeks on the job, Celtic hero Brown has already made an impact on McGeady’s perception of his work. In addition to discussing the title race, the former Republic of Ireland international offered his thoughts on the main message being conveyed by his old teammate. Rangers has the opportunity to draw even with their Glasgow rivals this midweek if they can defeat Ross County handily in their Scottish Premiership match.

McGeady said in an interview with the Scottish Football Podcast, “It will be interesting. Rangers didn’t play poorly in

my opinion at all. They felt at ease. You are familiar with what happens when a Championship team advances to the

fifth round of the Scottish Cup while you are a player for Rangers or Celtic. You are sometimes on the verge of second

gear and are expected to win. At times, I thought Rangers were like that. It would have been an entirely different

game if we had scored more and the scoreline had been higher.

“However, moving ahead with the season. It is very, very tight. Having been there and done that, Celtic’s experience

should prove to be the decisive factor at the end of the season.

“A lot of football still needs to be played, and Rangers have added some quality players. Oscar Cortes, the left winger,

particularly impressed me. He appears to be a very direct and incisive player.”Although Celtic’s transfer business has

received a lot of attention thus far, many of the team’s best players shine when faced with challenges. The most

recent Celtics vs. Rangers game was exactly the same. Everyone was talking about how Rangers were the favorites

and how bad Celtic was.

“Celtic won that game with excellent play. It’s likely to be among the league season’s most thrilling finales in a very

long time.” Regarding Brown’s debut at Somerset Park, he continued, “It’s been going well, and one thing I noticed

right away is that he has us pretty well-structured. Rangers are always going to have opportunities, even at Ibrox.

They have some good players who can turn and find gaps for other players, but his basic philosophy has been to go

around us rather than through us thus far.

“After that, all that remains is to build on it. Even though he has only been in charge for a few weeks, things are

looking up. It’s amusing to observe him in a new setting and with a manager staring him down instead of a player.

He means business. His goal is to become a senior manager.”
