Steven Gerrard reunion confirmed after Liverpool legend’s Saudi Arabia announcement
After taking a position as assistant manager at Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, former Liverpool coach Michael Beale has reconnected with Steven Gerrard. The 44-year-old was Gerrard’s assistant at Ibrox and Aston Villa in the past.
Al-Ettifaq posted a brief statement on his X account that said, “Michael Beale joins Steven Gerrard’s first-team coaching staff as assistant coach.”
Unsuccessful stints in charge at Rangers and Sunderland followed, and Beale was sacked by the Black Cats in February after only 12 matches in charge.
Gerrard, fired by Villa in October 2022, joined Al-Ettifaq last summer and led them to sixth in the Saudi Pro League in his first season.
But the former Liverpool and England midfielder has been under pressure this term with his side having won just three of their 10 league matches and none since September.
