Chelsea plotting summer move for long-term Celtic target
Celtic made a number of acquisitions this summer, and several of them appear to be having a beneficial influence so far. Kasper Schmeichel has exceeded most expectations. Following Joe Hart’s retirement, the Leicester City star was signed as a free agent and has proven himself to be more than capable of taking over as the Hoops’ number one.
Despite his many strengths, Schmeichel is not Celtic’s long-term solution in that part of the game. It’s been a long since they had one.
Caoimhin Kelleher of Liverpool has been linked with Celtic for several years. However, a transfer has never materialised. And now it appears that the transfer price may be prohibitively expensive for them.
According to The Sun, Chelsea is interested in signing Kelleher this summer. Liverpool are hesitant to see such a talented player join a potential title contender, but if the Blues match the £35 million transfer valuation, they may be left with little options. Juventus and Napoli are also keeping an eye on the Irishman, although he is expected to remain in the Premier League.

No matter how you look at it, Kelleher ending up at Celtic seems unlikely. They cannot meet that valuation. Even half that amount would be challenging and a club record fee.
Of course, Celtic’s situation is far from hopeless. There are certainly good goalkeepers out there that can be brought in for the transfer costs they are ready to pay.
They might not be as good as Kelleher, however. The Liverpool goalkeeper is perhaps the best backup option in the world, and he is unlucky to have Alisson Becker ahead of him.
