Aston Villa starting XI vs Crystal Palace predicted as Unai Emery sweats on injury concerns
Unai Emery’s Aston Villa meet Crystal Palace at Villa Park on Saturday following the end of the November international break.
Aston Villa have the opportunity to win their first game in a month when they play struggling Crystal Palace at Villa Park on Saturday (3pm kickoff).
Oliver Glasner’s side won the Carabao Cup at Villa Park last month, but they have lost three of their first five away league games while drawing the other two. The Eagles won their first Premier League match of the season against Tottenham at the end of October.
Villa, however, have lost their previous four matches in all competitions but are only one point below third place in the Premier League, with only half of those losses coming in the league against Tottenham and Liverpool. Emery would expect to see Matty Cash and Ross Barkley return from injuries for the Palace match, but he has had a few injury concerns over the international break.
Ezri Konsa has returned to Villa after suffering a hip injury in England’s victory over Greece on Thursday night. England interim manager Lee Carsley didn’t want to take any chances with the defender, who trained inside on Saturday before of their game against Ireland.
Pau Torres reported considerable discomfort when he joined the Spain squad, and Ian Maatsen returned to Villa due to an injury. Emery will provide an update on those players later this week during his pre-match press conference, although Jacob Ramsey, Boubacar Kamara, and Amadou Onana are all set to miss this weekend due to injuries.
If available, Cash could return to the starting lineup against Palace, while Konsa’s health will be evaluated. Pau Torres should be fine to play, but Emery has Diego Carlos and Tyrone Mings as backups in case Konsa and Torres need more rest.
Lucas Digne should play left-back after assisting three times and scoring a free kick from roughly 25 yards in France’s victory over Italy on Sunday night.
Barkley may partner Youri Tielemans in midfield, while Leon Bailey provides breadth on the right and John McGinn operates on the left following Ramsey’s injury at Liverpool. Morgan Rogers is anticipated to assist Ollie Watkins in attack.
Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Pau, Digne, Barkley, Tielemans, Bailey, McGinn, Rogers, and Watkins are the expected Aston Villa starting lineup against Crystal
