Newcastle United consider appointing ex-Arsenal chief
According to reports, Newcastle United are considering former Arsenal chief executive Vinai Venkatesham for the same position at the club.
Craig Hope reports for the Daily Mail that Newcastle United are continuing their search for a new chief executive, and former Arsenal man Vinai Venkatesham is among the names in contention. Venkatesham spent seven years at Arsenal, but he left the club earlier this year for a new challenge.
Newcastle United are looking for a replacement for Darren Eales, who was diagnosed with blood cancer in September. Eales will step down once a successor is appointed, although he will continue to work for the club in the interim.
Venkatesham’s departure from Arsenal has come at an ideal time, making him a viable choice for Newcastle, albeit he is allegedly just one name in a lengthy recruitment process.
Arsenal decided to replace Venkatesham through internal promotion, with former head of football operations Richard Garlick taking on a new role as the club’s managing director. Despite the slightly changed job description, Arsenal co-chair Josh Kroenke indicated that Garlick will oversee the club’s executive staff.
Venkatesham was well-respected at Arsenal and was awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours List in 2024. If Newcastle can persuade him to join the club, it will undoubtedly be a strong signing.
