However, Rangers easily defeated Hibs 3-0 to get closer to Celtic at the top of the league.

Hibs suffered a crushing defeat as a result.

The victory marked the Jambos’ sixth straight win in the Premiership, and they now lead fourth-place Kilmarnock by eight points.

The Hibees, on the other hand, will need to work very hard to stay in the top six as Aberdeen closes up on them.

Ahead of the Premiership action this weekend, with only a few days left of the January transfer window to go, here is the

latest news from Hibs and Hearts’ Premiership rivals…

Celtic to replace ex-England star

After designating a new number one as their top priority for that transfer window, Celtic will replace 36-year-old former

England international Joe Hart, whose contract expires at the end of the current campaign, as the team’s first-choice

custodian in the summer

Transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke stated that the Hoops are actively looking for a long-term replacement for Hart in an

interview with the most recent episode of the Track Podcast.

Earlier this month, there were rumours circulating that Brendan Rodgers was considering a summer move of up to £20

million to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

According to a different rumour, Rodgers’ team is expected to pay a high price for Real Madrid custodian Andriy Lunin, even

if they would be eager to sign him.

St Mirren secure EFL loan

In time for the 25-year-old left-back to be named in the starting lineup against Rangers on Saturday, Jaden Brown is set to

head north to join a loan with St Mirren from Lincoln City (Daily Record).

According to reports, Brown is prepared to move north and finish his relocation to the Buddies. Although he relocated to

Lincoln during the summer, the boss of St Mirren has now been able to settle in.

The 25-year-old joined Tottenham’s junior programme before going on to establish himself at League

One and EFL Championship teams Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday.

Robinson has been keen to add to his full-back options after Southampton recalled

Thierry Small and if the signing goes through, it will be the club’s fourth January addition.

Ex-Hibs boss ‘back-up’ option

Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon is the back-up option for the Republic of Ireland job should England Under-21 boss Lee

Carsley reject an approach from the Football Association of Ireland (Ireland Mirror, print edition).

The FAI had identified Carsley after sacking Stephen Kenny but there are fears he was set to snub it in order to keep his

current role with the Young Lions.

However, the Irish chiefs are now confident that they will land their preferred man with the Director of football Marc

Canham, CEO Jonathan Hill and board member Packie Bonner are currently in London holding talks with candidates.

Even though Lennon is still highly regarded, he has not had a job since leaving Omania Nicosia, a Cypriot team,

despite being linked to other SPFL positions.
