HOOPS LATEST: Celtic cash in on player eyed by Liverpool, Real Madrid and Man City
Jeremie Frimpong has been the subject of constant conjecture since leaving Celtic for Bayer Leverkusen in 2021, a scenario that has intensified in the aftermath of the Bundesliga’s incredible 2023/24 season.
Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Manchester City have all been mentioned as potential big-money suitors in recent weeks, with the former Celtic defender reported to have a release clause of over £35 million on his head.
In the final stretch alone, 90Mins has Frimpong heading to Liverpool, with full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold appearing unlikely to stay at Anfield beyond this year.
According to Sportsmole, the 23-year-old is on the verge of returning to Manchester City, where he rose through the ranks before joining Celtic.
According to PA, if Real Madrid does not sign the supposedly exiting Alexander-Arnold, Frimpong is expected to take over at the Bernabeu.
Frimpong’s Celtic-to-Leverkusen deal includes a 30% sell-on clause, which may result in a ~£7 million payout if a buyer activates the defender’s release clause.
Frimpong is now signed with the German Bundesliga club until the summer of 2028, following a contract extension in the summer of 2023.
