Rangers want Ryan Barnett transfer after he made headlines for Wrexham
Rangers are keeping an eye on Wrexham’s Ryan Barnett ahead of the upcoming transfer window, according to Ranger News. According to reports [13 November], the Light Blues are considering their options for January, but the Welsh club has the option to extend the contract of the “crucial” wing-back.
Barnett made headlines when he scored for the Red Dragons in a 1-0 League One win over Mansfield on November 9. Aside from the Bears, Stoke City and Preston North End are both interested in the Englishman.
Rangers could replace James Tavernier with Ryan Barnett
Barnett has been at Wrexham for a few years and has developed into a fantastic performer for the Red Dragons, who are aiming for a third consecutive promotion.
The 25-year-old has developed into a solid right-back after spending most of his career in the midfield before joining the Welsh club.
Barnett has started all but one league game for Wrexham this season, as they sit third in League One with eight clean sheets. James Tavernier has struggled at Rangers this season, and some have suggested that the captain should go in the coming months.
Philippe Clement has depended on the defender despite his dismal performances, but Dujon Sterling and Neraysho Kasanwirjo have demonstrated that they are more than capable of starting games for the Bears.
While the Light Blues can make Kasanwirjo’s loan move permanent, it remains to be seen what they will do. If the Dutchman’s services are not retained, Barnett appears to be a viable option.
In other Rangers news, the Northern Ireland manager has verified details on Ross McCausland.
