Isak ‘shocked’ by Newcastle contract stance in major Arsenal boost
Problems with a contract extension with Newcastle are said to have significantly increased Arsenal’s prospects of signing Alexander Isak.
Since joining the Premier League in 2022, the 25-year-old has been associated with the Gunners for a number of years, beginning with his time at Real Sociedad. Their interest has only increased as a result of his performance.
For Eddie Howe’s team, Isak has scored 40 goals in 78 games, including four in his past four games, including the game-winning goal in the 1-0 victory over Mikel Arteta’s team at the beginning of November.
As Newcastle tries to stave off outside interest, it appeared that the Swedish striker would join Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon in agreeing to a new contract. However, according to TBR Football, Isak’s entourage have been left “shocked” by Newcastle’s stance in negotiations, with several hurdles emerging.
It is claimed that Isak had hoped to reach an agreement over the summer to make him one of the club’s highest earners, but that has not materialised. Talks over a release clause are also said to have been an issue.
“That’s a slightly more complex situation,” Eddie Howe said recently when asked if Isak would follow his team-mates in agreeing new terms.
