SPFL claims it has addressed ‘factual inaccuracies’ in letter from six clubs

The Scottish Professional Football League asserts that it has spoken with six elite

teams that raised serious concerns about its recent governance review about “factual

inaccuracies.”

After a three-month inquiry by financial accountants Henderson Loggie, Aberdeen,

Motherwell, Livingston, St Johnstone, and St Mirren joined Rangers in submitting an

open letter to the SPFL regarding its handling of the study.

“We can confirm that we received a letter on behalf of six Premiership clubs,” an

SPFL spokeswoman stated. Numerous factual errors were in the letter, which we have

since corrected with those clubs. After the process is over, we look forward to meeting

with all Premiership clubs to discuss the recommendations of the independent

governance review.

The clubs had outlined what they said were problems with the independence and

transparency of the study as well as the SPFL’s general governance. The statement

that “did not reflect the full findings of the report” was allegedly made by SPFL

chairman Murdoch MacLennan without the consent or knowledge of the SPFL board

or member clubs. The clubs further claimed that the SPFL executive had altered the

report before forwarding it to the board.

After a protracted dispute over its primary sponsorship arrangement, the league

apologized to Rangers and the investigation was launched last summer.
