Rangers finalising contract terms for ‘Wonderful’ Ibrox star – Chris Jack
Rangers and John Lundstram are finalising the terms of a contract extension, with talks between the two parties “on course”, according to Chris Jack.
The English midfielder has been an important component of Philippe Clement’s midfield since the Belgian came at Ibrox,
being one of the first names on the teamsheet after good displays against St Mirren and Hibernian.
Lundstram’s contract in Glasgow is slated to expire at the end of the season,
but Rangers Review columnist Jack has stated that negotiations about an extension are ongoing and that it is up to the Gers to make the news.
Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel (8 February),
he said: “As far as I know, it is still very much on track; after the Dumbarton game,
the manager stated that he wanted to keep him.
“I know John himself has said that he’d be keen to stay, by the sounds of it,
it’s just a case of finalising the terms on that and then it’s obviously up to Rangers when they announce it.”
Philippe Clement hopes to keep John Lundstram at Rangers.
Clement has been concerned about the center of the park since joining Ibrox,
with injuries to Ryan Jack, Lundstram, and Tom Lawrence limiting the Belgian’s options during the season.
However, Lundstram has been available week in and week out and has put in some outstanding performances,
with critics shocked by his “wonderful” passing range and suggesting that tying him down should be the Gers’ top goal.
The Light Blues appear to have listened to those requests and are putting plans in place to keep the 29-year-old at Ibrox for the foreseeable future. With the acquisitions made in January,
he will not be a guaranteed starter, but he will play an important part.
In major games where greater control and finesse are required in the middle of the pitch,
there are few better options in the Rangers’ camp than Lundstram.
Securing his future may be one of Clement and Rangers’ best moves this season.
