Cowboys projected to get two compensatory picks in 2024 NFL Draft
All we have to cheer about now that the Dallas Cowboys aren’t in the playoffs is free agency and the draft.
The Cowboys have a reputation for being frugal when it comes to the former, preferring to wait for
deals to present themselves rather than taking a big risk.
The Cowboys will accept everything they can get in the latter case because the draft serves as their main
means of building a squad.
In the first round of the draft, the 24th pick will go to the Cowboys.
We’ve known that ever since the Green Bay Packers eliminated them in the Wild Card Round.
They are currently slated for these picks overall.
First round (24)
Second round (56)
Third round (87)
Seventh round (230) (from Raiders in Johnathan Hankins deal)
Seventh round (241)
Trey Lance was acquired by the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for the Cowboys’ fourth-round pick.
In the transaction that resulted in them obtaining Eric Scott Jr. in the previous draft, their fifth-round pick
was given to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Houston Texans acquired their sixth-round selection as part of the Brandin Cooks trade.
That isn’t much firepower to add to the roster. especially considering that the draft class of 2023 didn’t
exactly blow everyone away.
Thankfully, Over The Cap, a consistently reliable source in this area, projects that the Cowboys will receive
two compensatory picks.
For losing Connor McGovern to the Buffalo Bills in free agency, it is expected the Cowboys will get
a fifth-round compensatory pick.
Losing Dalton Schultz to the Texans should bring the Cowboys a sixth-round pick.
Noah Brown’s signing by the Texans almost brought another seventh-round pick but just missed the cutoff in this projection.
