The journalist explained that the Ibrox club like the left-back, who is on loan at APOEL Nicosia,
Rangers will keep avenues open on conversations with Fluminense defender Jefte, according to GIVEMESPORT’S Dean Jones.
Rangers have a verbal agreement in place to reactivate the option to sign Jefte after their January move for him fell through,
according to Fabrizio Romano of X on January 31.
“It’s always a good sign if you know a player is trying to make a fuss to force a move to your club,
” Jones told GIVEMESPORT (7 February). “That’s a player you’ll want to support in the future.
“It doesn’t always work that way. Sometimes that opportunity is passed up.
We’ve seen that in some high-profile cases previously. For example,
we had Joao Palhinha at Fulham who was close to joining Bayern Munich at one point.
He was at the training ground, had all of his images and interviews completed, and suddenly it didn’t happen.
That deal did not emerge in the subsequent transfer window.
“So, it doesn’t always happen that the player has another chance to make the move.
However, the Rangers liked him and would most likely keep an eye on him in the future.
I understand they will continue to communicate with the player to reassure him that he is still in their thoughts.”
Are the Rangers still interested in Jefte?
Rangers were extremely busy during the January transfer window, which marked Philippe Clement’s first opportunity to buy and sell players at Ibrox.
He was far more active in the former category, bringing in Fabio Silva,
Oscar Cortes, and Mohamed Diomande, all of whom signed on loan.
There was also a notable departure, as midfielder Jose Cifuentes joined Cruzeiro after only moving to Scotland from Los Angeles FC last summer.
All eyes will now be on the upcoming summer transfer window,
with Jefte potentially being the first player through the door.
It would be intriguing to observe what happens in Rangers’ left-back position at the end of the season,
as Borna Barisic and Ridvan Yilmaz have recently competed for the position.
