Lawrence Shankland reaches Hearts milestone to to back up Rangers valuation claims
Rangers-related In the process, Lawrence Shankland scores his 50th goal for the Tynecastle club and helps Hearts win three more points.
The 28-year-old Scotland international striker has been playing for the Edinburgh team in fantastic form, and his
22nd goal of the year separated the Jambos from Dundee. With that 1-0 victory, Hearts’ status as the third-best team
in the Scottish Premiership was solidified. It was their sixth straight league win.
In their attempt to make it into European knockout football for the second consecutive season, the club’s decision to
price Rangers out of the Lawrence Shankland race is nearly justified.
Hearts CEO Andrew McKinlay had stated that Hearts desired more than £4.5 million for the striker in January
because of his significance in the race for third place. Following the game, Lawrence Shankland thanked Hearts
supporters for the banner honoring his accomplishments in reaching the milestone and declared, in typical
Shankland fashion, that he would not be resting on his laurels.
“It is a nice little recognition for myself. I honestly didn’t realize it was my 50th until the very end when I saw the fans’ banner, which was a really thoughtful gesture,” Shankland remarked.
“It was up to me to go and take it, and the numbers support that in terms of what I have done so far. However, I will not stop there; I want to keep going and go and get more.” The club gave me the opportunity to come play here.
With Lawrence Shankland’s contract at Hearts expiring in the summer, the striker was also questioned about contract negotiations regarding his future:
“Obviously, it’s on hold for the time being. The club made an offer with a deadline, but it was too soon to make such a decision when I still have 18 months left on my contract, so there are a lot of things to consider. However, we will definitely talk about it again later on; I believe the club has stated as much. Thus, as long as things are going well on the field, I believe it is crucial that we just keep going and worry about the rest later.
Rangers connects a noteworthy one for the summer season.
After scoring 50 goals in 79 games for Hearts, Steven Naismith, the manager of the team, referred to Lawrence Shankland as “the best forward” in the league.
Lawrence Shankland is undoubtedly an intriguing option for the Rangers going into the summer, and it’s not without
good reason. The hitman for Hearts is a potentially strong Scottish Premiership option, and one imagines the links
will reappear come June as the Ibrox club considers a significant reorganization.
Shankland is often seen as one of two Premier League striker options that Ibrox executives might be considering in
the summer, but he would come in much cheaper than the £8 million option.
