Philippe Clement confirms Rangers transfer rumour for striker with 50 goal in 79 games
Rangers-linked Lawrence Shankland grabs another three points for Hearts, scoring his 50th goal for the Tynecastle club in the process.
The 28-year-old Scotland international striker has been in outstanding form for Edinburgh, with his 22nd goal of the season separating the Jambos and Dundee.
That 1-0 victory was Hearts’ sixth in a row, cementing their position as the Scottish Premiership’s third force.
It almost excuses the club’s choice to price Rangers out of the Lawrence Shankland chase as they attempt to qualify for European knockout action for the second year in a row.
Hearts CEO Andrew McKinlay said that Hearts sought more than £4.5 million for the striker in January due to his importance in the hunt for 3rd place.
Lawrence Shankland hits 50 for Hearts
Following the game, Lawrence Shankland thanked Hearts fans for a banner commemorating his achievement in reaching the milestone.
In true Shankland form, the Hearts forward stated that he would not be resting on his laurels.
“It is a nice bit of recognition for myself, at the time I actually forgot it was my 50th until the end when I saw the banner from the fans,
that was obviously a nice touch from them,” Shankland added.
“The club gave me a chance to come here and play, and it was up to me to go and take it, and I feel like I did that;
the figures back that up in terms of what I have done so far, but I will not rest there, I want to keep going and go and get more.”
The striker was also quizzed about contract negotiations over his future, with Lawrence Shankland out of contract at Hearts this summer:
“It’s clearly on hold for the time being; the club presented one with a deadline,
but it was obviously too soon to make decisions like that when I still have 18 months on my deal,
so there’s a lot to consider. But I am confident we will review it in the future; I believe the club has also stated this.
So, for the time being, things are going well on the pitch, and I believe it is crucial that we continue doing so and worry about it later.
Rangers links one to watch as summer approaches.
It’s not without cause, either, and Lawrence Shankland is an intriguing alternative for the Rangers this summer.
With the Ibrox club undergoing a significant rearrangement, the Hearts striker is a potentially viable Scottish Premiership option,
and one believes the links will reappear in June.
Shankland is one of two Premiership striker alternatives that may be of interest to Ibrox officials this summer,
but he is significantly less expensive than the £8 million alternative.
