Chris Sutton blasts Rangers fans as controversial Celtic footage emerges on Sky Sports

Chris Sutton has blasted Rangers fans who were arguing over a penalty decision awarded to Celtic in their 2-1 win over Hibernian on Wednesday (8 February).

Sutton tweeted on his personal X account (7 February) as Celtic prepared to face Hibs after Rangers tied the Hoops for first place in the Scottish Premiership with a 2-1 win against Aberdeen on 6 February.

Brendan Rodgers’ side extended their lead to three points after two Adam Idah penalties,

while footage from Sky Sports Scotland (7 February) showed Kyogo Furuhashi being fouled inside the box

by Joe Newell following VAR intervention.

And Sutton went to his X account to bash Rangers fans who believe referee Nick Walsh made wrong penalty decisions.

He wrote, “How are people (mainly bears) squabbling over this award?

Nick Walsh was right on both penalties tonight.

Celtic issue a strong response to Rangers comments.
Sutton’s conclusion that it was largely Rangers fans who were fighting about the penalty rulings is perplexing,

considering that he does not know everyone who may have complained.

It appears that the former Celtic striker is feeling the strain of Philippe Clement’s side following their stunning win over Aberdeen,

which has left the Hoops worried as the Scottish Premiership title race heats up.

However, Celtic needed to deliver against Hibs,

and they did so, even if their performance was subpar.

Based on game footage of Furuhashi’s incident,

it appears that VAR made the correct judgment,

but image the outrage from Sutton and Celtic fans if it had not been made.

Rangers fans will have felt Celtic should have been on the end of a contentious decision themselves

after they saw Dujon Sterling sent off after referee Don Robertson stuck to his onfield

decision after VAR intervention when the foul was clearly a yellow, not a red.

Light Blues fans will be riled up by Sutton’s outburst on Twitter which makes this potential title race even more enjoyable.

In other Rangers news, new Aberdeen manager Neil Warnock has reacted instantly to a Gers controversy during the clash with the Dons at Ibrox.
