OFFICIAL: Kristjaan Speakman officially departs Sunderland for a rival team. “It’s time to take on another challenge now.”
Don Goodman, a former Sunderland striker, thinks Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Kristjaan Speakman should take a lot of the credit for the Black Cats’ outstanding start to the season.
After the international break, Sunderland won three straight games. Regis Le Bris’ young team easily defeated Oxford at home after beginning the year with victories away at Hull and Luton.
Head coach Le Bris is receiving the majority of the credit for Sunderland’s run, which has put them five points ahead at the top of the Championship with 28 points from 12 games.
But according to Goodman, chairman Louis-Dreyfus and sporting director Speakman should also receive a lot of praise.
The club made a little shift in its transfer strategy last summer, aiming for more seasoned players rather than untested youth.
And that has contributed significantly to Sunderland’s incredible start, Goodman claims.
“The season is off to an amazing start,” Goodman said to Sky Sports. We were all concerned, asking ourselves, ‘What can we anticipate from Sunderland?’
They haven’t looked back since they got off to a fast start. There was no way you could have predicted it.
The hierarchy deserves praise. Chris Mepham and Alan Browne have been brought in. At 24, Wilson Isidor is even older than the players they had brought in. Simon Moore is a wonderful person.
“I believe the penny may have fallen, that they required some constructing experience. They have guys who have been there before, and that will help Sunderland when times become hard.
On Saturday, Sunderland will travel to QPR in an attempt to solidify their lead in the Championship standings.
