As if their recent frustrations weren’t enough, Newcastle United may now lose one of Eddie Howe’s top

players, with a European giant reportedly making a move to secure a dream deal.

Injuries fast catching up with a Newcastle squad that did not receive nearly enough reinforcements during the

summer transfer window always seemed to be the storyline for the Magpies’ season. And after four Premier

League games without a win, that is certainly the case.

Without Sven Botman, Callum Wilson, and Kieran Trippier, Howe’s team lost 1-0 to Brighton & Hove Albion,

extending their drought without a goal from open play to 360 minutes across all competitions. With Chelsea

in the Premier League and the Carabao Cup coming up, things aren’t going to get any easier for a squad that is

already battling to keep up with such a demanding schedule. Recent reports imply that those at St James’

Park may face another blow away from the action. According to rumors in Spain, AC Milan now wants to give

Sandro Tonali a fairytale return in 2025 after sanctioning a £55 million move to Newcastle in 2023.

Tonali’s comeback to Newcastle was only just announced, having missed the most of previous season due to

suspension. It would be a significant loss if he left for Milan as early as next year, given how the Magpies

remained patient despite a rocky start at St James’ Park. Newcastle should be concerned that rejecting his

boyhood club may prove impossible for Tonali, who stated that leaving San Siro was the “toughest decision”

of his life, earning £120,000 per week. While Newcastle haven’t made the best transfer judgments in recent

years, allowing Tonali to return to Milan less than two years after arriving in Tyneside would be their worst

decision yet. If the Italian returns to his boyhood club next summer, he would have spent the most of his

Newcastle career on the sidelines due to Suspension before bidding farewell, which should be viewed as the

worst-case scenario for the Magpies.
