Brendan Rodgers directly answers Kieran Tierney Celtic return talk amid ‘tongues wagging’

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has replied to speculation about Kieran Tierney’s probable return to the Hoops

after the pair were photographed last week at the Celtic FC Foundation’s annual gala dinner. Both were present at

the event, along with Rod Stewart, Chris Sutton, and Martin O’Neill, among others, but special guest Kieran Tierney

became the primary topic of discussion among fans. Still at Arsenal following his £25 million move from Celtic in

2019, the Scotland international and Brendan Rodgers were seen deep in conversation while the celebration was

underway.

Since then, sources have suggested Celtic are interested in bringing Tierney back to Parkhead, with a January loan

deal being considered. While it remains to be seen whether any linkages will materialize, Rodgers has now addressed

the photo in question and expounded on his friendship with his former teammate. In his news conference before

Celtic’s match against Aberdeen tomorrow, Rodgers said there was nothing noteworthy about his encounter with

Tierney last week.

He explained: “It was wonderful to see him. I’ve always kept in touch with Kieran while we were both down there.

Obviously, he has been out injured, so the club’s invitation was a nice touch. He was an excellent player for this club,

and it is unfortunate that his time at Arsenal has been marred by injuries and other setbacks. “It doesn’t take much

now to get tongues wagging.”

Despite having played football outside from Scotland for the past five years, the Lennoxtown product is unlikely to

avoid queries about a return to the Bhoys due to his long-standing association with the club.

When asked about a Celtic comeback earlier this year, Tierney refused to rule it out, saying, “Who knows?” You never

know in football; it’s a connection that I’ll always have, somewhere I imagine I’ll always be associated with if I leave

any club, so you never know.
