Chiefs miss out on two WR trade candidates, but gain a new potential option through Jets.
On October 15, the NFL saw a pair of big-name wide receiver trades. The first was Davante Adams to the New York Jets,
and the second was the aforementioned Cooper deal to the Buffalo Bills.
Although the Chiefs legally missed out on both prospective trades, Adams never seemed like a realistic option since
the Las Vegas Raiders would have had to agree to send him to a fierce foe within the division. Cooper,
who was both affordable and most likely available in KC, was the biggest miss.
ESPN analyst Matt Miller identified the three most likely candidates as of October 15: Tennessee
Titans veteran DeAndre Hopkins, Carolina Panthers possession receiver Diontae Johnson,
and a brand-new prospect created by the Adams deal.
That, of course, is former Los Angeles Chargers rival and Jets free agent bust Mike Williams,
who has already been mentioned as a potential trade partner for Kansas City.
Michael Obermuller has been writing about the NFL and NHL for Heavy.com since 2021.
His primary concentration is on the Kansas City Chiefs, New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers,
and Miami Dolphins, as well as the New York Rangers and New York Islanders.
His former bylines include FanDuel’s The Duel, King Fantasy Sports, and Pro Football Mania.
He is a Quinnipiac alumnus and resident of the New York City area. More on Michael Obermuller.
When an ex-Chief is released, there is always speculation as to whether Kansas City may explore
reuniting with the former player. After all, head coach Andy Reid values familiarity on both sides
of the football, and MVS has only been a part of this system for two years.
The Chiefs also have a wide receiver need, and Valdes-Scantling would be a steal,
similar to JuJu Smith-Schuster or Kareem Hunt re-signing in Kansas City.
Having said that, it’s reasonable to question whether MVS offers anything to this WR corps.
