Paqeuta match fixing hearing update
There appears to be some doubt concerning Lucas Paqueta’s ability to travel to Brazil at the end of October to
participate in a match-fixing hearing. The West Ham playmaker has been invited to speak with his uncle Bruno
Tolentinoon on October 29.
The CPI hearing on Game Manipulation and Sports Betting is set to take place in Brazil’s capital just four days before
West Ham meet Nottingham Forest in early November. Senator Jorge Kajuru, head of the CPI, has issued an official
summons to the West Ham and Brazilian national team player, who will appear on the same day as influencer
Deolane Bezerra, who is engaged in another case. A senior club source stated that the club does not believe presence
at the hearing is required, but they are studying the West Ham player’s legal status.
It is likely that Paqueta’s legal team will obstruct his appearance before the FA hearing in March, or that he will only
be able to testify by video link from London. Whatever happens, we likely haven’t heard the end of this saga.
