Rangers are concerned over Connor Barron’s injury after he suffered a knock while on international duty, according to reports.

It is believed that the midfielder, who has been a crucial player under Philippe Clement, did not travel with the Scotland under-21 squad owing to injury.

According to the Daily Record, Barron will not be included in the matchday squad for Tuesday’s last Euro under-21 qualifier against Kazakhstan.

The former Aberdeen starlet began against Belgium on Friday at Tynecastle, but is now unavailable for the young team as a precautionary measure.

Clement had urged Barron not to “burn him alive” following a tough start to the season, so he rested him against St Johnstone.

The Ibrox manager did bring Barron on for the Scottish Premiership match, but he has been careful to limit his minutes to avoid injury.

The Belgian stated: “Connor Barron has played a lot of minutes in recent weeks and months and has been very essential in that regard.

“We need to see also that we don’t burn him alive and Nico is doing good things in training came also in a good way on Thursday so it is his moment.”
