Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist have reacted to the contentious decision to send off Dujon Sterling in the closing moments of Rangers’ 2-1 win over Aberdeen on Tuesday 6 February.
With the Gers hoping to seal the game and draw level on points with Old Firm rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership,
the former Chelsea player was sent off with two minutes remaining.
Brazil reacted angrily to the decision,
but McCoist could only laugh, pointing out the humour in the contentious moment at Ibrox.
“Every week, you and I both moan about the referees going over to VAR and some of them not having the conviction to keep the same decisions,” McCoist stated live on talkSPORT on Wednesday (February 7, 6:11 am).
“Oh, I’ve given up,” Brazil responded.
In hysterics, McCoist continued: “Well, the referee did it last night,
and he was wrong. Honestly, you couldn’t make it up.
“Dujon Sterling goes in for a tackle, but he’s late and slips.”
He catches the player on the toe; it’s yellow all day. The referee dismisses him, and the VAR, to be fair,
warns him that he is a little harsh.
“The referee goes over, reviews the ruling, and dismisses him anyway.
Even when they have the opportunity to get it right, they continue to get it wrong.

Anyone who witnessed the game will realize that McCoist is correct.

While there is a desire for referees to have more backbone, most fans simply want consistency from officials during games.
Rangers are expected to explore appealing the “harsh” judgment, and they should; the alteration should be simple.
