Philippe Clement quizzed as on-pitch Don Robertson exchange turns heads at Ibrox

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has sought to cool the conversation around an on-pitch discussion with referee Don Robertson.

The Belgian manager has made it obvious that he disagrees with the referee‘s decision to send off Dujon Sterling in the 2-1 victory over Aberdeen.

However, Clement has emphasized that the final decision is up to the referee, as Don Robertson doubled down on his earlier ruling following an on-pitch review.

The decision has received widespread criticism and is objectively severe, with subsequent decisions in the game going against Rangers in this sense.

Clement was observed arguing with Robertson at full-time, but when questioned about the exchange, he said everything was “calm”.

The Rangers manager also praised the referee for having an open and honest talk, putting an end to any speculation of a heated argument.

“We had a calm talk,” Clement stated. “No, stay calm. I also like how we can debate things with referees in a respectful and appropriate manner, such as our thoughts on the red card.

“This is a tough decision for me. Because Dujon (Sterling) slid and hit his opponent’s toes.

“So far, I haven’t seen many red cards for touching an opponent’s toes. If I go back, I can’t remember a single moment, which is cruel and makes the game’s ending more tough.

“But it’s also a challenging career, I know, because we have to make decisions every day during training. So the referee makes the final decision, and we must accept it.”
