Official : Lucas Paqueta Finally issued a Lengthy Ban

Lucas Paquetá, the Brazilian midfielder for West Ham United, is facing the possibility of a lifetime ban from football due to his involvement in an alleged betting scandal.

The Football Association (FA) has charged him with

deliberately receiving yellow cards in four Premier League matches between November 2022 and

August 2023. The FA’s investigation revealed suspicious betting patterns,

particularly involving bets placed in Paquetá’s hometown in Brazil.

Allegedly, around 60 individuals bet on him receiving yellow cards,

leading to winnings of approximately £100,000.

 

The FA considers Paquetá’s case particularly severe, potentially more so than

previous incidents of spot-fixing in English football. Paquetá denies all allegations and

has not placed any bets himself,

though he is accused of deliberately getting cautioned so his associates could benefit financially.

The investigation is ongoing, and a final decision on the ban could take months.

Paquetá has maintained his innocence throughout the process.
