Reports: Nico Raskin may be benched by Philippe Clement following what the Rangers star did against St Johnstone.
Reports: Nico Raskin may be benched by Philippe Clement following what the Rangers star did against St Johnstone.
Nico Raskin has had some difficulty getting into the lineup since
the Rangers hired Philippe Clement about a year ago.
The Belgian midfielder had a protracted injury setback that limited
his Scottish Premiership starts to only 11 last season.
After starting in league victories over Hibernian and St Johnstone, Clement has been trying to increase his playing time.
An international break is scheduled before the Gers play Kilmarnock.
The 23-year-old, who partnered Mohamed Diomande and Connor Barron
at various stages throughout the game on Sunday,
October 6, seemed to have drawn the attention of a few spectators.
After his most recent performance, Raskin appears to be playing at full capacity once more.
He is playing as well as he did with Standard Liege prior to earning a move to Ibrox in January 2023.
Rangers defeat St Johnstone, and Nico Raskin receives well-deserved praise.
Rangers News gave Raskin an 8/10 after he spent the entire 90 minutes in the middle of the park, praising his “outstanding performance” and “tenacious” tackling throughout the game.
It is understandable for fans to be thrilled—or perhaps taken aback—by his dominance in the middle of the park.
He completed 67% of his dribbles, took 80 touches,
and made nine passes into the final third of the field [FotMob].
The 23-year-old engaged in the most duels (20) of any player on the field; he won the second-most with 11,
but he also lost the second-most (9), only to fellow Gers player Jefte.
Additionally, he made seven tackles; even though he only prevailed in 29% of them,
he was a complete nuisance against the Saints, and Clement cannot allow his team to lose him.
Even though Raskin put on such a strong show at Ibrox,
it could seem harsh to bench him in favor of Diomande and Barron when they play Kilmarnock.
In other Rangers news, following their victory against St Johnstone,
Ianis Hagi sent a 12-word note to Ibrox.
