Tom Cannon opens up on private chat with Stoke City boss, Sam Gallagher partnership and those four goals
Tom Cannon appreciates it took a couple of weeks to find his feet at Stoke City but he is hoping he can now start to show supporters what he’s all about
Tom Cannon hopes he has given Stoke City supporters just a glimpse of
what he can offer when he’s up to full speed.
The 21-year-old striker hadn’t started a game since late February
before he joined Stoke on a season-long loan from Leicester
on transfer deadline day at the end of August. He shook off a bit of rust
in three league appearances before scoring four in one game against Portsmouth.
It was the second goal on that night, running behind the defence onto a through ball from strike partner Sam Gallagher, which he sees as the type of typical Cannon goal
he wants to be a familiar sight as the season now goes on under new head coach Narcis Pealch.
“The second goal against Portsmouth is my game in a nutshell, running off the shoulder,
a first time shot or taking a touch and early shot,” he said. “Hopefully it can continue.
“I think the first couple of games when you go to a new club are a case of settling in,
getting to know the lads, getting to know the place. Quite a lot happened
in the first few weeks too. Now it’s settling down,
we’re getting used to the way the manager wants to play,
I’m getting used to the players and they’re getting used to me.
That all takes time, it doesn’t normally happen overnight.
“It was nice to get chances to put the ball in the back of the net and
I always back myself to take those chances.”
