Rangers will take into account an SFA appeal against Dujon Sterling’s “harsh” red card.
Tonight, Philippe Clement said that Rangers may file an appeal with the SFA about
Dujon Sterling’s “harsh” red card that he earned toward the end of the Ibrox
club’s victory over Aberdeen.
Clement was furious after replacement Sterling was sent off in the 88th minute
of a thrilling Premiership encounter that his team won 2-1 this evening
due to a foul on Jack McKenzie.
The Belgian was shocked as referee Don Robertson upheld his initial decision
even after his VAR colleague Greg Aitken pushed him to view a playback
of the confrontation on his pitchside monitor.
He made it clear that he would have to accept the decision of the match
official to give Sterling a red card and to only give Aberdeen striker Duk a yellow card for elbowing Rangers center half Connor Goldson.
He did, however, acknowledge that he would speak with
the Ibrox club’s management about the situation in the upcoming days
and that they would think about filing an appeal.
He remarked, “That it was a hard decision for me.” Dujon stumbled and collided
with his opponent’s toes. Up till now, I haven’t seen many red cards that
allow you to touch the opponent’s toes. I cannot recall a single moment if I were to look back.
That is a severe one, which makes the game’s conclusion challenging. However,
I am aware that it is a challenging career because we are required to make
decisions on a daily basis while in training. We have to accept the referee’s decision at the end.”
