Reports: Leeds United’s chances of Winning World Cup winning

Although the past two weeks have been detrimental,

Daniel Farke’s team appears to be more than capable of challenging for the championship again in the Championship.

Following Max Wöber’s knee surgery,

Leeds is down to just two senior center backs and two senior midfield players due to long-term knee injuries sustained by Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev.

Even if Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka managed the show against Sunderland on Friday,

Farke is not in the best of situations to miss a number six until January.

Given the absence of activity between their release in May and now—five months, to be exact—the names on the free agent list that Leeds has access to in October aren’t exactly ideal.

Christoph Kramer, a 33-year-old former midfielder for Borussia Monchengladbach,

is a preferable possibility because of his extensive experience in the top division and his past connections to Farke from Gladbach’s 22–23 season.

Other names include Edouard Michut, a former target,

and the duo of Etienne Capoue and Francis Coquelin, who were Villarreal players.

The Yorkshire Evening Post now reports that it is doubtful Leeds will recruit Kramer on a free agent deal in the upcoming weeks.

This is because the 33-year-old is more inclined to stay in Germany and look for alternative options,

such as jobs in television:

Leeds needs to address their lack of midfield depth by January, so at face value, signing a free agent makes some sense.

The issue is that, even if Kramer signed tomorrow, it would take him a minimum of one month to catch up.

By that time, November would have arrived and the window would have opened,

and he would still lack match sharpness.

Having bodies in the door would be helpful, but thankfully for Leeds,

their schedule following Sheffield United is rather favorable.
