Jordan Henderson has signed a three-year contract with Sunderland following his contract termination with Ajax.

English football teams in the first and second divisions are keeping an eye on Henderson,

so a return to Wearside could not be out of the question.

Jordan Henderson may be planning an emotional return to Sunderland.

That is according to The Sun, who have mentioned the Black Cats as a possible destination for the former midfielder for Liverpool, who is now having trouble getting playing time at Ajax, the dominant team in the Eredivisie.

As they have over the past few years, Regis Le Bris’ team currently boasts a fairly established roster that is full of youthful players.

Recent years have seen a considerable interest in developing youth among Kristjaan Speakman and other prominent personalities at the Stadium of Light, with players like Jobe Bellingham and Eliezer Mayenda emerging as significant first-team contributors.

Additionally, a few players from their academy are starting to make an impression.

Chris Rigg, for example, has emerged as a key member of the first squad after scoring in a recent 2-2 draw with Leeds United.

Tommy Watson might possibly become a big asset for the senior team in the next year or two,

with the youngster highly rated and being linked with a move to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Wearside does not have much room for older players; Simon Moore is the only player over 30 that they signed in the summer.

Furthermore, it is safe to assume that Le Bris has a fairly youthful team at his disposal given the departures of Bradley Dack and Corry Evans from the team in recent months.

Given that Henderson has accomplished a great deal since leaving the Wearside club in 2011, he may be a wise choice for them.

He thrived under Jurgen Klopp for 12 years at Anfield, winning both the Premier League and the Champions League.

Henderson, who made a name for himself on Merseyside,

can undoubtedly claim to have had a very successful career, both with the Reds and internationally.

He transferred to Al-Ettifaq last year, where Steven Gerrard is the manager.

However, the player’s stay in Saudi Arabia was brief as he signed a contract with Ajax earlier this year.

Despite his expertise, he has not exactly been one of the first names on the Dutch team’s roster in the league this season,

starting just a few games and being an unutilized substitute in others.

According to The Sun, who have speculated about the midfielder’s potential return, a return to the Stadium of Light may be imminent.

According to the same source, several Premier League teams have been informed of his possible availability prior to January.

However, it is also said that “several” elite Championship teams are considering making a move for the player,

who might be eager to go back to England and get more playing time.
Sunderland should give serious thought to a possible deal for Jordan Henderson.

During a tough 46-game season, depth is important and Henderson may be a great addition for the Black Cats because of this.

He can’t, however, be getting too much playing time at the detriment of other promising younger players.

He could definitely make an impact and help the Wearside outfit is promotion drive,

and he would be a great role model in the dressing room.

If the Englishman goes back to the Stadium of Light, he should not expect to start every week though,

since Bellingham, Rigg, and Dan Neil all need as much playing time as possible.

Henderson, though, might be a useful squad member.
