The manager of Nigeria, Augustine Eguavoen, has defended his choice to leave Cyriel Dessers,

the leading scorer for Rangers, off of his Super Eagles roster once more.

This season, Dessers has netted seven goals for the Ibrox team, including two goals each against Dundee and Ross County.

However, he is still not considered for the Nigerian team and hasn’t been in a squad since March of this year,

when he earned his most recent of six caps against Mali.

He was left out of the roster for the two-leg African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Libya this week.

However, Eguavoen maintained that Dessers was part of his future plans.

He declared: “When it became apparent that Victor Osimhen would not be ready in time,

I made the decision to invite Kelechi Iheanacho of Seville.

“I looked at both Cyriel Dessers and Tolu Arokodare, but opted for Kelechi this time because he is the more experienced striker.”
