Eddie Howe could quit Newcastle after bust-up – Top source
Eddie Howe’s chilly relationship with sports director Paul Mitchell may force him to
resign from Newcastle United.
This is according to former Man United chief scout Mick Brown, who is still highly
well-connected in the industry. Brown exclusively told Football Insider that there is a
sense of instability within the team due to the decision-makers’ lack of cooperation.
Since the sporting director challenged the previous recruitment policy in the summer,
there has been enough documentation of the tensions between Howe and Mitchell.
While those tensions are now reported to have cooled, Brown has stated that the boss would
not be happy to see a decreased role in the club’s decision-making, given he will be made to
deal with the results should things go wrong.
The manager has been connected to the vacant England manager’s job, which is being filled by
interim manager Lee Carsley after Gareth Southgate’s exit.
As a result, he is understood not to have any shortage of prospective offers on the
table should he leave St James’ Park in the near future amid rising uncertainty.
Eddie Howe could quit Newcastle United after new twist
A repetition in January might escalate the unrest in Newcastle, which had a vexing summer
transfer window in which the first team squad failed to strengthen at critical spots.
In addition to working closely with managers at other elite clubs like West Ham, Aston Villa, and
Tottenham, Brown clarified that Howe would probably become irate if his authority is taken away.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if he walked away,” the very experienced operator told Football Insider.
He will eventually to the realisation, “I’m the manager, I’m responsible for everything,
I have to pay for everything, but I’m not the one making the decisions,” so it wouldn’t surprise me.
“He is not going to have that.
Thus, it’s a perfect example of the sporting director and manager not working together.
“I’ve witnessed a lot of instances where it goes wrong, and very few instances where it succeeds.
“I’ve heard that the current circumstances are creating instability within the club.
That can’t be favourable.
“Where do you go from there when the football director tries to bring in players the
manager doesn’t want?”
“There are some really appalling remarks made by the director of football that criticise
the manager’s choices.”
Everyone you speak with who has dealt with him says Eddie Howe is an expert in his job.
