Sunderland U21s scored their first Premier League International Cup win of the season with a 2-0 triumph against Lyon in midweek
Graeme Murty, the coach of Sunderland U21s,

has lauded teenage striker Trey Ogunsuyi for his “greedy” performance on Tuesday night against Lyon,

which ended up winning the match.

In the 82nd minute, the forward headed home a corner from Caden Kelly,

and moments later, he finished beautifully to secure the 2-0 victory in the Premier League International Cup.

The forward scored both goals in the match.

The 17-year-old had been treated earlier in the competition after a severe headbutt that left his nose bloodied,

but he came back to the fight with impressive results.

Ogunsuyi is already having a great season,

as seen by his few goals at the U21 level and his few selections in Regis Le Bris’ first team matchday roster.

And Murty believes the actress is headed in the right direction and will continue on a great path.

He stated, “He [Ogunsuyi] is building a basis to go forward and be successful

if he continues to grow and he continues to develop and he continues to remain hungry,”

in an interview with The Echo following the full-time whistle at the Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground.

He recovered from a really terrible head clash in the first half,

and I believe it showed a wonderful degree of maturity and resilience. I’m extremely happy for him and the squad. Since he was determined to stay, we kept a close eye on him and prioritized his safety.

But throughout the game, he demonstrated true resolve in handling two far, far older center halves.

He put forth a lot of effort and played some excellent hold-up for us.

Center forwards have an insatiable desire to score goals.

And we’re extremely happy that he was able to finish a few really strong deliveries, both for the team and for himself.

Speaking last month, head coach Le Bris of the first team outlined his strategy for Ogunsuyi and emphasized the importance of exercising patience while gauging the young striker’s progress.

He declared: “At the moment, he is still a young player who needs to learn more about our surroundings and what it’s like to be around professional athletes. He definitely needs time to grow.

However, he is a very intriguing player going forward and possesses many positive traits.”
