BREAKING: Ally McCoist forced into Rangers clarification live on air as he receives ‘dog’s abuse’ over misheard Celtic claim

McCoist said Celtic had never won in Germany – but it seems some Rangers fans misheard him

Ally McCoist says Rangers fans were on his case to give him ‘dog’s abuse,’ accusing him of overlooking their win in Dortmund under Gio van Bronckhorst.

But the Ibrox hero says punters jumping down his throat simply missed his point – as he specifically meant that Celtic had never won in Germany. The popular pundit was in the talKSPORT host’s chair on Tuesday morning and high on the agenda was the Hoops’ clash with Borussia Dortmund. He was full of praise for Brendan Rodgers’ team and said they ‘have a chance’ of an upset – but balanced that out with some fairly damning stats from their trips to Germany over the year.

Celtic have never won a European game on German soil, losing nine of their last 11 trips there, and McCoist pointed that out in a discussion with Andy Townsend and Paul Lambert. But it seems some Rangers fans misheard him as, later in the same segment, he was forced to clarify something.

Gers famously beat Dortmund 4-2 at Westfalenstadion in the round of 32 on their way to the final in Seville. And fans thought McCoist had said no Scottish team had ever won in Germany. But he clarified: “There’s something I just need to say quickly. All the Rangers fans have been on and giving me dog’s abuse, because they reckon I missed Rangers winning in Dortmund a couple of years ago. But I didn’t say a Scottish team. What I said was Celtic have lost each of their last four and nine of their last 11. There was no mention of any other team.

“So get off my back. Dear me, it’s bad enough saying Celtic are doing well without the Rangers fans turning on me.”
