Done Deals : Wolves signs £200m star who then won PL POTY – Comfirmed

Liverpool defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at the Molineux on Saturday,

Nuno Espirito Santo made a surprise deal towards the end of July 2019 to recruit

the Spanish central defender from Real Madrid for a season-long loan.

He was only ever going to be a temporary solution for Wolves, though, since the deal did not contain

a chance for the club to make it permanent at the conclusion of the 2019–20 season.

In the end, Vallejo was not even a temporary solution for Nuno because the center defender found it difficult to establish himself and was only able to make two Premier League games before having his loan terminated in January.

The table above shows that in his two appearances in the top level, Wolves gave up an incredible six goals, lost four of his seven ground duels, and committed one mistake that gave the opposition a clear opportunity to score.

Prior to being shipped back to Real Madrid, where he is still playing today after making one appearance in a La Liga game for the Champions League winners, Vallejo also participated in five EFL Cup games and five Europa League qualifying matches.

The only central defender Wolves purchased during the 2019 summer transfer window was the Spaniard, but if they had been somewhat more aggressive in their pursuit of Ruben Dias, one of their top targets, things might have turned out very differently.

The Express & Star reported at the start of August 2019, just a matter of days after the deal for Vallejo was completed, that the Old Gold had decided to end their interest in the Benfica star.

It was claimed that the Old Gold were keen on bringing the Portuguese titan over to England and that they had been in talks with Benfica to agree a fee for his services.

However, they were unable to reach an agreement with the Liga Portugal giants and were not prepared to pay his release clause to get a deal over the line, as it was set at £57m.
