Emi Martinez breaks silence on ‘offensive’ actions as he makes Aston Villa promise

Emi Martinez has replied to his international suspension by apologizing for the activities that led to the ban.

Martinez will miss Argentina’s next two international games after FIFA issued a two-game ban for “offensive behaviour” to the Aston Villa

player. Following Argentina’s victory over Chile earlier this month, the 32-year-old goalie replicated his notorious 2022 World Cup

celebrations. Martinez was given a replica Copa America trophy after the game in appreciation of Argentina’s victory this summer, which

he held up to his crotch.

Martinez also punched a camera with his gloves as a cameraman approached him on the pitch following Colombia’s 2-1 defeat. He will

now miss the World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia during the October international break.

The Argentine Football Association had already issued a statement, saying, “It should be noted that the Argentine Football Association

(AFA) expresses its absolute disagreement with the decision taken by the FIFA disciplinary committee.” Martinez has finally spoken up on

the topic.

Posting on Instagram, he said: “I accept the @fifa sanction and sorry if I upset anyone; the purpose of the celebration is to make many

guys smile rather than to disrespect anyone. “Despite my inability to go, I will support my pals on this FIFA occasion.

“It was never my intention to disrespect anyone, nor did I understand that a gesture well received by the people was offensive, but I will

try not to offend anyone more and just focus on winning titles with Argentina and Aston Villa.”
