Stoke City boss responds to fan anger, needs players to show trust is justified as injury latest revealed ahead of Portsmouth test
After Stoke City’s 2-0 loss to Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon, the club’s supporters booed, but manager Narcis Pelach had no problem with it. Ben Doak and Hayden Hackney’s goals in each half secured Michael Carrick’s team all three points, but the Potters were defeated at Riverside Stadium.
After the match, the away fans jeered the Stoke players as their run of defeats in the Championship reached three games. Next up is Portsmouth’s visit on Wednesday night, as Pelach, who succeeded Steven.
Schumacher this month, seeks his first win as Potters boss. Pelach feels he has seen some positive changes since taking over but criticised aspects of his side’s performance against Boro as they look to improve matters before Pompey make the trip north in midweek.
“There are also positive things,” he thought to himself. There are always two sides to a performance, therefore we must remove the emotion and observe it for what it is. I was surprised that the team, who are excellent at it, came here and controlled half the ball at
Middlesbrough. We were able to manage the situation and quiet the stadium with passes, but I’m not content with that alone. I want to score goals and create opportunities.
“We have to be lot more clinical and we don’t seem ruthless in the box. There were a few instances during set plays where we had the opportunity to score but failed. We need to discuss and work through this with the players.
Naturally, patience is a requirement because things are changing and being built upon quickly. Only nine days remain. However, the supporters have every right to express their feelings, and I completely agree with them. It must originate with ourselves and not with them. Their only want is to witness the squad battle, triumph, and score goals. Since that didn’t occur in the other two games, I can appreciate your frustration; it’s common. To improve our game, we must concentrate on the things we can control. We must endeavor to win games.”
Million Manhoef, a player for Stoke, requested to be taken from the field during the match at Riverside Stadium. He will be evaluated prior to Wednesday’s match against Pompey. Pelach continued, saying, “He was not feeling well and asked for the change. He will have to be assessed.”
