He started the current campaign as the number one as usual, but has now lost his place in the starting XI to new signing Sam Johnstone.

Johnstone signed for Wolves from Crystal Palace for £10 million, which raised more than a few eyebrows.

It was a signing that not everybody felt was entirely necessary, and some suggested it was a lot of money to spend.

Johnstone has come in and displaced Sa, and it can be argued that Wolves now have two number one standard goalkeepers on their hands.

And new signing Johnstone has been speaking about this idea in a new podcast appearance.

He was heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia but in the end, nothing materialised and there has been no mention of his potential exit since.

Sa made his return to the starting XI in the Carabao Cup last week against Brighton, and struggled. But he looks to have slipped to the number two goalkeeper.

Interestingly, Johnstone spoke about clubs having two number one goalkeepers on the books – and his view on that is very clear.

He told Fozcast: “You look at a lot of clubs having two number ones. It’s a recipe for disaster, I’ll be honest with you.

“It’s great, obviously you’ve got two really good goalkeepers. But two goalkeepers who actually want to play every single game every week. At some point it’s going to crash isn’t it?”

Johnstone is spot on

The current goalkeeper situation at Wolves is downright strange.

There is not a great deal between Johnstone and Sa and both are capable number one standard goalkeepers.

Both O’Neil and Matt Hobbs spoke about the benefits of having strong competition after Johnstone signed.

But realistically Johnstone is right. You can’t really have two number ones battling it out, you need a clear hierarchy so that everyone understands where they are and so that everyone is happy.

Many would be absolutely amazed if Sa was still a Wolves player beyond the January transfer window, because he surely cannot be happy about losing his place.
